Dear Spelman Community,
I am excited to announce that Spelman College has been selected to receive a generous gift from author and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.
Last year, after making a commitment to use her wealth to address social inequity, Scott asked a team of non-profit advisers to help select organizations that have a major impact on race, gender, and sexual
identity groups that have been historically marginalized.
Though her work to redistribute her wealth is ongoing, Scott announced today that Spelman has been selected, along with more than 100 organizations, to receive a major unrestricted gift.
The entire Spelman College community extends its warmest gratitude to MacKenzie Scott for her extraordinary generosity.
We share her belief that solutions driven by diverse problem solvers lead to the most relevant changes in inequitable social systems.
With the world changing all around us, Spelman remains as vital, as vigilant and as necessary as ever. To continue making the impact we have made for over 139 years, we will focus this investment on aspects of our strategic plan, which was designed to ensure the bright future of our students and the enduring future of Spelman College.
