We are always delighted to share good news, especially when it comes to our community. Sharon Davies, Spelman’s former provost and vice president of Academic Affairs, was recently appointed as president of the Kettering Foundation, based in Dayton, Ohio.
Davies served at Spelman from 2017- 2021 and played a role in the launch of our strategic plan. She also worked closely with the division and department chairs, and program directors to help maintain academic excellence and provide strong support for student success.  Prior to joining Spelman, Davies served as vice provost for Diversity and Inclusion and chief diversity officer at Ohio State University, where she served for 22 years on the faculty of the Moritz College of Law, where she held the Gregory H. Williams Chair in Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.
Davies succeeds David Matthews, who has led the foundation since 1981. The Kettering Foundation is a nonprofit operating foundation rooted in the American tradition of invention and cooperative research. Kettering’s research is conducted from the perspective of citizens and focuses on what people can do collectively to address problems affecting their lives, their communities, and their nation. Please join me in extending well wishes and much success to Sharon Davies.
